　　Jo: Do you like going to the pub Oliver?

　　Oliver: 酒馆? Yes I love going to English pubs – do you want to go for a beer now Jo?

　　Jo: Well, I'd love to Oliver, but we have a BBC Learning English programme to do! A programme in fact about pubs!

　　Oliver: 每当人们提到传统的英国酒馆的时候，都会在眼前浮现出一个固定的画面，那就是：

　　Cosy, comfortable, friendly.

　　They often have rather highly-patterned carpets. Often it smells a bit stale.

　　Oliver: 在酒馆里会非常舒适、安逸cosy, 酒馆里都有着花纹鲜艳的地毯。

　　Jo: Highly-patterned carpets. Pubs smell stale.

　　Oliver: 陈旧的、陈腐的。散发出啤酒和香烟的气味。

　　Jo: So that’s the traditional pub, but pubs have changed in recent years and there are lots of what we call ‘gastro pubs’. Now, gastro is short for the word gastronomy.

　　Oliver: 美食美味。英国人把gastronomy 简写成gastro, 那这样的酒馆和老式酒馆有什么不同呢？其实，就像那个名字一样，食品是关键。

　　Our boozers are turning bistro. At the Dog and Fox in Wimbledon, a ￡1.2 million makeover – food's the focus, with 150 covers and 10 chefs. Jo: So our boozers – which is another word for pub – our boozers are turning bistro.
