　　I came through very boldly really from the west of Scotland where I lived with

　　two of my friends, and we just walked down the high street, and we went into probably the first venue that we saw and I remember going in there and seeing someone - I can’t now remember who - doing a solo show based on Out of Africa, the memoir of Isak Dinesen. And I just remember seeing this and to me it was just something I’d never heard of. I didn’t know that people could do plays all by themselves, it was just a completely new experience.

　　John: That’s interesting; Joyce was really impressed that you could see a play performed by one person, a solo performance.

　　Chen Li: Sounds like Joyce enjoyed herself!

　　John: Well, let’s leave the last word to arts impresario Richard Damarco. He told the BBC how impressed he was that so many people came to the Edinburgh Festival.
