BBC Learning English - Space Tourism
Tim: I would pay maximum 20,000 pounds but I still couldn't afford that.
Will: If I were a rich man, I’d pay probably £50,000, or something like that I would say would be worth it.
Helen: Well,we have already seen a number of space tourists making the trip into space. Have you got any idea how much they paid for their trip, Oliver?
Oliver: No, but I guess £50,000 isn’t enough.
Helen: Well, you’re right. Denis Tito is an American billionaire, and on the 28th April 2001, he became the first fee paying space tourist.
How much did he pay?
Helen: He paid a staggering 20 million US dollars for the trip.
Oliver:
Helen: Recently in the UK, a prize to win a trip to space was launched by New Scientist magazine and car giant Audi. Oliver:
Helen: How did the idea come about? Here is Jeremy Webb, the editor of New Scientist Magazine.

Like many people, I’d love to go to space, and we were looking for a fantastic prize to give away on the magazine, and somebody said it would be nice if we could send somebody into space, and since 2004, that started to become a reality.
