Jo: She said a lot of places run on a Friday and Saturday night.
Oliver: To run 经营酒馆,她的意思是很多地方只有在周末有大量客人的时候才可能赚到钱。
Jo: But she says they need trade every day.
Oliver: 经营。她说他们需要天天营业,因为这是一个美食酒馆。
Jo: So do British people like these gastro pubs or do they prefer the traditional pubs we talked about at the start of the programme? Here's some language to help you. Backstreet.
Oliver: 后街或者背街。
Jo: ‘Blokes’ is another word for men. And you'll hear the verb ‘to survive’.
Oliver: 生存、幸存。
Jo: And you'll hear the adjectives ‘modern’.
Oliver: 现代的、休闲的,relaxing.
Insert
I do think the whole way that pubs are needs to change really to appeal to people like me and families.
I do like backstreet pubs full of old blokes and smoke. I hope they still survive.
I don't like them – they’re too modern -I don't like modern, they're not relaxing.
Jo: So some people think the change is good, but some like the old traditional pubs. Well, that's all we have time for today – so now can we go to the pub Oliver?
